FAQ's

What Should You Look For When Selecting a Heating and Air Conditioning Contractor and Other Important Questions?

1.  Do they have a State HVAC license, business license, insurance and workman's compensation and how many years have they been in business?

2.  Check to see if they have any State Board or Better Business Bureau complaints.

3.   Can they provide referrals from previous customers?

4.   What are their installation standards?

Southeastern HVAC's "minimum" standard's exceed code minimums in most cases.

5.  What type of ductwork construction and design is included in your estimate?

Southeastern uses mostly sheet metal with little flex duct.  This insures maximum airflow and best efficiency.  Southeastern is expert in air distribution, (getting air to the right place to maximize your comfort).  Southeastern is able to balance the system for even temperature between rooms.

6.  There are so many choices, how do I know what unit to purchase?

Quality varies between brands, but the more important considerations are choosing equipment that is properly sized and has a good efficiency rating.  If either the sizing or the efficiency of your system is wrong, it matters little what the brand is.  Many times heating and cooling equipment is installed that is too big.  Equipment that is too big costs more to buy, wastes energy, may wear prematurely and can actually provide less comfort. A house's heating and cooling needs vary dramatically according to orientation, shade, window area, air leakage and insulation levels.  Southeastern Heating and Air Conditioning will review all pertinent facts as per your home, condition of existing duct work for a retrofit or replacement unit and your budget.   There is not just one answer.  We will suggest the right choices for you.

7. In the summer, my house is cool, but clammy, what is the problem and how do I avoid it when I put in a new unit?

Proper sizing is especially important for air conditioning in the Southeast.  Units that are too large cycle on and off quickly and do not run long enough to remove the excess humidity from the air.  Mold and mildew start to grow at 70% RH.  Dust mites thrive above 50% RH.  Comfort is a function of humidity and temperature.

8.  Should I invest the extra money to get a humidifier and air purifier?

The decision to purchase a humidifier depends on whether you or your family are sensitive to dry winter air, have house plants and pets that need a more comfortable humidity level.   An air cleaner is excellent for those who have allergies.

9. How do I Compare Quality and Technicians?

  • Select a brand name that you trust
  • Get recommendations
  • Look for 3rd Party Endorsements such as EPA's Energy Star and EPA's Green Seal
